WINDY DANKOFF • Solar Consulting • Off-Grid Photovoltaic Applications and Solar Water Pumping

Who I am

I am a consultant to industry, non-profit and educational institutions in the field of solar water pumping and remote (off-grid) power.

I retired from commerce in 2005 to gain experience, and to work in educational aspects of renewable energy. I have been involved equally in both remote residential power and solar pumping, but I specialize in pumping because of my unique background as a product and system developer and manufacturer.

I am honored now to co-author THE book on solar pumping. It's giving me a perspective on the future of the field, and on who's doing what.

Consulting and Advising
  • If you have water supply projects, I can help you define your needs and assess your options. This may include evaluating local resources or identifying specific products and suppliers, or comparing competing proposals.
  • If you are an aid worker, I can help you identify both emergency and long-term solutions.
  • If you are a wholesale or retail supplier, I can help you develop a focused and a sellable line, with a training program.
  • If you are a developer, manufacturer or importer, I can advise on many levels.
  • To support your personal education or career, I can help you to learn and to focus on the best resources.
  • If you are an educator, I can help you develop curriculum that is grounded and up to date.

SMALL JOBS
are all I can do while I'm writing the book. But often, that can be of great value. Contact me here  and if the task is too much or is outside of my experience, I will tell you right away and may refer you elsewhere.

A very quick bio

Windy Dankoff's career combines his technical talents with his passion for environmental preservation. In 1977, he began a wind-electric and photovoltaic installation business in New Mexico, to serve people living beyond the power lines. He worked solely in the private sector, where systems had to be cost-effective. Windy credits his success to promoting a whole-systems approach to energy efficiency, and to educating the suppliers and users of his systems. In 1983, he became one of the first manufacturers of solar-electric water well pumps. More details are on the HOME PAGE.

And no, my parents didn't name me Windy. My legal name is Mark Haven Dankoff.

A 1980's adventure

Picture

This is where Dankoff Solar Pumps were assembled from 1986 to '91. The shop and water well were off-grid with
PV, wind power and no backup. I learned a lot by living with my own systems.
Nearly everything was DC powered, out of necessity, including machine tools and two Apple computers.
Excess energy was diverted to the solar car, a fun project I built in '83.

DEDICATIONS:  To my wonderful family

I would not be such a happy man without the love of my wife Alma Dankoff and my treasured relations with step son and daughter Sarab David Mattes and Stephanie Benson, and grandchildren Frances, Saul, Saia, Tristan and Dylan. I believe that each succeeding generation is an older and wiser manifestation of humanity. They bring me hope and joy.
In memory of PAUL WILKINS
Paul Wilkins was a PV Pioneer of the first order. In 1979 he threatened to camp inside the Arco Solar factory until they agreed to sell the first PV modules to the home market. He remained a colleague, loyal friend and support to the industry for over 30 years. We miss him! This PHOTO shows Paul with his antique Wincharger. We built the "octahedral" tower together in 1979.
